Accents and apostrophes are necessary because in writing there aren't any of those "helpful tools" of the speech (tone of the voice, gestures, facial expressions...).

In venet(i)an, the stress :

1) is never marked on words ending in consonant because usually these have the stress on the last vowel as in french: paron (=parón), parlar, vegner (=vegnér), vocal (=vocàl)... In some varieties these words undergo vowel narrowing (paron - paruni , dotor - duturi) that is metaphonesis. Likewise, the stress is not marked on giornal, magnar, seguir, tegner, saver... On the contrary it should be written on foreigner words which differently from "venetian rythm" are stressed "in the middle": el compùter, el sèrver...

2) on the penultimate position acute accent is written only on closed-ó , closed-é to mark their closedness: tóxo, tóco, toco, conposto, sóto, zsoto, sóra, sora, méso, méxe, mexo, fiaco, inbriago, scuro, inpuro, produtivo, linea, aria, serio, segretaria... Indeed words in é, ó in some varieties have forms whith vowel narrowing, i.e. metaphonesis (tóxo-tuxi; tóco - te tuchi ; néto - niti ; ségno - signi) whereas other words always have an open invariable vowel (zsoto-zsoti, el toco - i tochi ; mexo-mexi, serio-seri)

3) it can be remembered, though not written, on some very frequent words: come (=cóme) , questo (=quésto), quelo (=quélo), mentre (=méntre), invezse (=invése, invézhe) , 'ndo (='ndó) , onde (= 'ndo = dove)...

4) is always written in all other cases, to mark the "rythm": àsido, ùmido, pòrtego, móstrame, pènsaghe, strénxelo, statìstico, parò, parché, gavéa, sarìa, finìo, partìi, ciapài, vegnùe, segretarìa...


n.b.) it would be better to write qûel, qûela, qûesta, qûi... to represent the two different pronounciations these words have: qûel (=kuél/kél) , qûela (=kuéla/kéla , kuéa/kéa)... and qûi (=kuì/kì) here which is different from chi who...
