Flag

English

The official Flag of Vèneto adopted through the regional law 56/1975 and later modified by laws 10/1998 and 7/1999 is yellow, red, blue: minor parts of the flag are green and brown.

The Winged Lion appeared in the flag of the Most Serene Republic of Venice and also yellow and red colors date back to that times; they are also present in today's flag of the city of Venice.

The blue representing the sky and the see has been a peculiar color of Veneto since long so that in ancient times
venetum was already a synonim of blue («Blavum seu Venetum colorem» = blue, i.e. veneto color) while green and brown represent the fields and the mountains.

The Winged Lion, symbol of St.Mark the historical protector of the Rep. of Venice, is positioned as controlling fields, mountains, see and sky and holds an open book with the inscription
Pax Tibi Marce Evangelista Meus (=Peace be with Thee, Mark, My Evangelist) the words with which an angel is said to have greeted Mark when during a storm he found shelter on an island of the Venetian Lagoon.

The seven tails of the flag symbolize the seven provinces of Veneto sorted by noun: Belluno, Padova, Rovigo, Treviso, Venezia, Verona and Vicenza.

Official Flag of Veneto

The official Flag of Veneto represents all the people living in Veneto regardless of their political bias and must not be confused with the red-yellow flag of the city of Venice: it has six tails (representing the sestieri, six quarters of the city) is very similar to the flag as the old Rep. Venice and has also been adopted with slight variations by some political autonomist parties.
